The Société Jersiaise, my host, is a non-profit learned society founded in 1873 for the study of Jersey archaeology, history, natural history, the ancient language and the conservation of the environment. Bergerac, a British television show (1981-1991) set in Jersey. Produced by the BBC it stars John Nettles as the title character Detective Sergeant Jim Bergerac, a detective in Le Bureau des Étrangers (“The Foreigners’ Office”, a fictional department for dealing with non-Jersey residents), part of the States of Jersey Police.
